Michal Splho

(Slovakia)

I was born on 14.10.1972 in Martin, Slovakia. First education in art I received as a child in kinder garden, where my friend taught me to draw a bear. I kept drawing and received education in a Community centre for children for eight years, most of the time in workshop of Olga Kryslova, later of Peter Klimek. In 1998 I joined workshop of June Collier in London for a few months. While staying in London I spent a few months in the National Gallery and British Museum, studying works of old masters daily. I also made there copies of old masters' paintings on request. From that time on I am realising such orders on quite a regular basis. The first exhibition of my works took place in 1992, Necpaly, in the ruins of an old renaissance castle damaged by the communist regime. The title of the exhibition was "Grand Vizier's garden party." Now I am exhibiting quite regularly, mostly in Bratislava where I am staying now. The title of the exhibitions remains the same. I like it very much. My future plans and dreams about art are connected with the vision of a new era of art and life of men. My most favourite music is by J.S.Bach and The Beatles, favourite book is the biography of Rembrandt by Gladys Schmitt.
