Zdenek Hnat ( 1935 ) – the 1957 gold medalist of the Prague Spring International Piano Competition - began his piano studies with Prof. Jaroslav Hauft (1912 – 1982) in his home-town of Liberec. Six years later, he completed his studies with first-class honours at the Prague Academy of Musical Arts as a student of Prof. Ilona Stepanova-Kurzova (1899 – 1975).His strongest influence, however, came from the legendary pedagogue, Prof. Heinrich Neuhaus (1888 – 1964), with whom Mr. Hnat studied between 1957 – 1960 at the Moscow Conservatory in the former Soviet Union.

Prof. Hnat’s performing career took him across most of Europe, not only as a recitalist, but also as a soloist with many prominent orchestras and conductors. He enriched the record catalogues with many extraordinary recordings.Prof. Hnat has been for many years a sought-after pedagogue. His teaching career began at the Prague Conservatory of Music from 1972 – 77 and since 1986 to the present he has been on the faculty of the Leos Janacek Academy of Musical Arts in the Moravian capital – Brno, in the Czech Republic.
